Life and Music Update

Posted by AceMantra - August 18th, 2019

So it's been a while since I've written an update; almost a year, actually. There's a lot to cover so let's get started.

Life Update

First of all, I've picked up a job in a production facility. I started by pushing, pulling and lifting metal around, and eventually worked my way up to welding. It's very intense and fast physical work, but I'm keeping up... barely. To stack on the good news, my benefits have finally kicked in so I don't have to pay nearly as much for my anti-depressants anymore.

Now for some bad news. While I may have coverage for my medication now, the financial damage from my prescriptions have left me in a crippling amount of debt. So much so that I can't remember the last time I didn't have a negative number in my bank account. Additionally, I've recently ran into some car trouble, and the $360.00 repair bill hit me really hard. But enough about boring financial stuff.

Music Update

Unfortunately my new job has left me with very little energy to work on music. I have made a lot of WIPs, but not very many finished songs. I am participating in the Newgrounds Audio Deathmatch again this year. I joined to get back into a composing habit, instead of just collapsing into bed right after work. Here's a link to my first round submission:

Honestly, I was surprised by the amount of positive comments and feedback I received from this song. I had so many ideas that never made it into the final song due to time constraints. I thought no one was going to like it; I guess I shouldn't be so hard on myself.

So what's coming next? Well, I have a lot of projects on the go. This includes a song for an audio drama, a fantasy themed album, and a variety of other commitments. I really want to make a track that combines Synthwave and Cinematic, but we'll have to see. What do you think? More Cinematic, more Synthwave, or something else entirely? Let me know.

I'm glad to hear you found a stable job with benefits! I'm surprised to learn that anti-depressants can be so costly in Canada - the Canadian healthcare system is occasionally praised in the U.S. so I thought you had that covered at least.

I can't afford antidepressants or a doctor who can prescribe them. There is a long wait for the free options, and since I'm depressed, I didn't bother pursuing it. I'll just wait until I get a job with benefits.

I hope you can get out of your financial situation soon.

Your song is solid considering you couldn't spend much time on it. I enjoyed it a lot. Personally, I would like to hear more cinematic music, but but hybrids are always interesting to listen to!

The Canadian Healthcare System covers what the government considers "basic needs" such as doctor appointments, hospitals, and other emergency situations. Pharmaceutical drugs however are either paid out-of-pocket or through insurance/employment benefits.
I'm sorry to hear that you're depressed. I can definitely relate to that struggle. If you ever want to talk about it let me know.

Aye, our healthcare sux, but still beats Murica healthcare by far... oh wait it doesn't exist, my bad.

Glad you are back on track. Does Alberta have some sort of coverage for med? In Ontario there's a thing called Trillium (OTB) and it mostly gives you fund for drug cost every 3 months or so. Jeez I kept forgetting how spoiled I am living in ON.

You mentioned production job? Are you unionized? Work benefits usually cover med, dental and eye care. My current job does. Check with your co-worker or supervisor on this.

Yes, I have benefits now, so I only pay a fraction of what I used to for my anti-depressants. I'm still struggling financially however; that may change once I manage to pay off the credit card debt.

@Everratic They're usually cheap for domestic brand, but doctors love to prescribe you shit from corp like Teva. Apotex used to be the dominant brand for all anti-depressants, until the CEO was murdered and its stock dropped like flies.
